Post 2: First Impressions

Now that you've listened to the first episode of Serial Season 1,
what do you think?

Answer the following questions in paragraph form:

1. What is your first impression of Adnan? Is he a good guy that his "dairy cow eyes" would suggest? When you hear his voice talking with Sarah (the journalist investigating), do you think he is telling the truth?
2. What do you think of Jay? Is he being truthful? Is he lying? Why do you think this?

  3. My first impression of Jay is that he's not telling us everything that may have happened because he's scared of what might happen to him. He seems jealous towards Adnan and his girlfriends friendship and how close they were.

Adnan seems accepting to what had happened to him, causing me to think why? My first impression of Adnan was reluctance . He seemed to remember what he was doing that day at that time and theirs proof he was there, but doesnt seem to remember the most important part of his evidence.

  4. There isn't enough information yet to conclude wether or not Adnan is innocent. But as I listened to Adnan speak to Sarah, I didn't feel as though he had any ill intent towards Hae and the situation. I don't get the feeling of smugness or anger that would come with a killer. He may have been to calm about the situation though. This is what I mean by there isn't enough information yet. However in the case of remembering, it seems quite normal that he can't remember everything about that day. It was months before he was questioned, and as he said, that day was like any other day to him.
This leads to my impression of Jay. To be blunt, I don't like him very much. The fact that he remembered everything that happened that day is off-putting to me. Unless you have an eidetic memory, which I'm very sure Jay doesn't, no one would remember everything from any given day. The fact that he changes what he says each time that he speaks with the detectives proves to me that he doesn't remember everything from that day, and it makes me wonder how much of what he's saying is the truth.

  5. My first impression of Adnan is he really knows what he is talking about when he is telling his story, at first he has very good details about what happened that day, and I fell he is confident about what he is saying. I think that he is trying to frame himself as a good guy, but i do think that he is telling the truth when he is talking to Sarah. I think Jay is a really bad friend, he is accusing Adnan of murder when he is one of the suspects, and I don't think he is telling the truth because he is unsure about what he is talking about and he changes his story every time he tells it

  6. 1. my first impression of Jay was that he wasnt telling the police everything he knows, and i feel like hes lying about some things and making up his own version of what happened. Hes constantly saying umm and making short pauses before he says something. I dont like him.

    2. My first impression towards Adnan was that I didnt really think he was capable and i still dont think he was capable of murdering Hae, He seemed to have a good relationship with Hae and even after they went there separate ways Adnan was talking to other girls so i dont think he really cared enough about them ending things to kill her.

  7. 1. My First impression of Adnan is that I don't think he was the one that killed Hae. I don't think that he had enough time to do it. They seemed to be on good terms.

    2. My First impression with Jay is that i think he is lying about something. His story changes every time he is interviewed. I kind of think he is the one that killed her but is letting Adnan take all the blame and keeps making up stories that make the detectives and police think he didn't do it.
